Tolkien's Reinterpretation of Beowulf

In 1930s, Tolkien reinvents it. Auden and McNeese all fall in love with Beowulf again. By the late 40s, early 50s, it's become unfashionable amongst undergraduates. The famous is calling it apes bum fodder. And why would anybody want to read this? So, I mean, surely it's the mark of a great, a great work of art that this reinvention can happen. With a bit of Hini in the middle.
