Frederick Phillips - A History of the Company
Frederick Phillips was the fourth son of a family that made its money in the tobacco trade. Marx would often call upon his relatives whenever he was in need of money. Frederick and his wife had 10 children, not all of them survived to adulthood. He became inspired by his son, Gerard, who was interested in making carbon filaments for light bulbs.
