The Importance of a Nudge
Even when we are choosing in our own interests, we often choose unwisely. The right kind of nudge can also help us do what we know we really ought to do. In the first edition of this book, I suggested that businesses should give employees a nudge to participate in giving programs by changing the default presented to them. Some Australian companies have since implemented opt-out workplace giving programs and they are seeing significantly higher participation rates than with the opt-in model. If you work for an organisation that does not have such a default arrangement, why not propose it?
