The beautiful country is a literal and direct translation of the words in chinese for america, which is magua, beautiful and country. The book is a very close look at our years in that status. You do not need to know chinese or any kind of romanization of chinese. You simply need to understand what it's like to be a kid when your parents are going through a lot. And so i hope that it will show readers a little bit of what it'slike to learn english as an young kid, but also may be helpi to teach them a littlebit of chinese along the way.
