People do connect causal ms and counter factuals in something like the way that lewis supposestat. And this can be shown much more systematically than lewis did, in terms of the various kinds of experiments that have been conducted or so on. But typically one needs to, you shouldn't just take em in face value. If you should, you should follow up on them and see whether they're supported by other sorts of means.
