The Placebo Effect in Behavior Therapy

Milton Wopan: I got interest in the placebo effect when I was an undergraduate student. He started doing research with him on the role of expectancy in the outcome of behavior therapy. And we did manipulations to increase and to decrease the expectancy of people undergoing systematic desensitization for phobic anxieties. That could make a big difference. Well, he'll tell you about a finding. You can tell me if you think it's interesting or if it would be the placebo effect. But I got data from 11,000 therapy sessions at the Feeling Good Institute. It had massive causal effects on every start of session and on every end of session variable.
