Introduction
The Social Security benefits race gap exists because the federal government imposes an effective 100% death tax on the money workers pay into Social Security. The average white male can expect to live another 18 years versus about 16 years for the average black male at age 65. Because women live longer than men, other things equal, the average man can expect to receive around 85 cents in Social Security benefits for every $1 the average female receives.
