Eugene Burt's childhood habits of lying and cheating didn't stop when he became an adult. His brothers gave him every break possible, trying to set him up in his own business with a cigar store in New Orleans. He never even made it to New Orleans. Eugene ended up in East Texas writing to them saying, Oh, look at sick, and I need more money. And they finally just said, you know what, come back to Austin. Come back, we'll give you a job in the shoe store. So Eugene Burt was a thief, and he wasn't above stealing from his own brothers.
