The Importance of Affordable Housing in Rural Communities

The bulk of research on homelessness has been conducted in urban areas of the US, much less attention within rural communities. I think there's often been an assumption that these types of forms of precarity are not so present in rural areas. But certainly within Northern New England, we have the confluence of several factors. So we have actually quite high cost of living within the region. And then we have a very limited amount of housing inventory. That puts enormous pressure within the housing market. We simply do not have enough stock of affordable housing within the within the area.
