The Importance of Listening to People
I was fortunate enough to sit with a guy called George who'd been around a long time and seen it all. And he said to me, surround yourself with smart people as many of them as you can, and then just sit in the corner and listen. But that Japanese bull market was crazy. I think being young and having no real experience, it was very easy to just hold your nose and buy stuff because you had no frame of reference. If you find yourself in a market that goes up every day, you don't question it. You just ride the trend. So it became actually one of the easiest jobs I've had was to trade that bull market.
