The Effects of Physical Fatigue on Perception of Effort
Researchers have found factors that increase the perception of effort when you're running or doing other type of physical activity. Fatigue is there, but it's not the primary limiter in those circumstances. The biggest one is actually physical fatigue itself. As your body gets physically fatigued, your body becomes more and more resistant to your brain's will to move. That's why mile 20 of a marathon feels so much worse than mile one even though you're still running at the same pace.
