Leviticus, Chapters 21 and 22
Leviticus, chapters 21 and 22 are a pair of chapters dealing with holy things and holy persons. The laws here would have applied not merely to the priests, but also to israelites more generally. It was a matter of particular importance that the priests, and especially the high priest, should retain their purity and holiness. They were acting on behalf of the whole nation, and if they are impure, they jeopardize the nation's status.
