The Origins of Clay Tokens

The Ischango Bone is etched with numerous parallel lines which have created a buzz of speculation around what they could mean. Denise Schmant Besserat is a French archaeologist born in the Marn department of France. She studied and published works on the very subject of the emergence of writing systems. So somebody of her learning would be a good person to approach in regards to determining the meaning of these clay tokens. It can be no coincidence that the variety of tokens discovered seemed to very definitely increase during the Uruk period. And this in turn is believed to have been the first practical to produce cuneiform writing.
