The Creative Penn Podcast For Writers

CHAPTER

Is There a Stereotypical American Indian Character?

I have an ebook, a free ebook of five stereotypes writers can avoid when they're writing about Native Americans. If that's a character in someone's story, just make sure it's not stereotypical and they're put in there specifically for that reason. That's the only aspect of the American Indian character that we get to see. And what my perspective is whenever I'm writing historical fiction is the people go on why people go on. Our culture and our history lives on well into the future to my lifetime. So having that awareness that that native people are still here. Yeah, that's so important.
