The Unintended Consequences of the Underground Railroad

Underground Railroad is a metaphor. It tries to encompass the activities of lots of people, black people and white people in assisting fugitives to escape from slavery. The intensity of the collision between the slave hunters and those who wanted to protect and defend slaves got more and more intense so you could say that the Underground Railroad really took clearer shape in the 1850s. People in the north was very far away from slave society.
