It occurs when increased awareness of something creates the illusion that it is appearing more often. When you learn a new word or concept, suddenly you start seeing it everywhere in your life. And now I've seen it three times this week. Well, why do I keep seeing those new shoes I bought everywhere I go? They must be becoming so popular.
