The Hittites and the Near East

Hittites still remained in a strong position and they were successful in taking lands from the Yamhad Kingdom which collapsed in the early 16th century. The new power on the scene was that of the Mitani which would emerge in the land between the Hittites and the Assyrians in northern Mesopotamia. Things were starting to heat up between the powers of the Near East and as ever this would encourage technological advances. We mentioned the development of chariots which had existed since the Emirian times but now they were advanced and could carry multiple warriors. Horse domestication may well have entered Anatolia with the Hittians themselves and harnesses had been improved to make the whole unit more efficient
