The Surreal World of Scofield
We wanted to create this kind of surreal world without coming out of the film going too far. We also had a sort of quiet rule, which is that we were never going to go backwards. The one time I got stuck was if he's gone up the steps in the lock house, he has to come back down them. But he doesn't, because we go out the window while he goes down the stairs. And there's that feeling, that slightly threatening feeling that the movie accumulates; it's constantly moving forward.
