The Self: A Center of Narrative Gravity
The self that gets cut through when you really learn how to meditate and the self that can certainly drop away in certain psychedelic experiences is the sense that there is a subject in the middle of experience, in addition to experience. The reason why there's an asymmetry here between the sense of self and its absence is because this is just an skeptical question. How do you know that's the ground truth? Maybe the self is real and this loss of self is the illusion.
