RDS has a custom underlying hardware architecture for RDS that is not available for you to buy separately as is. That's the beauty of open source: somebody can take something, make it to where people need this feature and they're willing to pay for it. I'm actually okay with that not being available in open source, but it would be nice if there were vendors that actually had that. Oh, wait, there are self-managed. See, I'm one of those that just enjoy the pain,. I appreciate fully managed, but self-managed is still important to me. Makes you feel more valuable.
