There are different mental states, the mental analogues to pain in the body. Restlessness is an abstraction for more specific experiences. It's unpleasant because it's unpleasant. We start struggling with it. As we struggle, we get more restless. The restlessness gets more intense. We resist it even more and we're bound in the cycle.
