The Origins of the Galapagos Vents

Jay Parini: We've known about these events since 1977, which of course is the year that Star Wars released BTW. When they were found, they were found near the Galapagos Islands and they're often near diverging tectonic plates. This could very well be the type of life that first evolved on Earth. And if there's life on Europa and Enceladus, it will almost certainly be chemo synthetic life.
