meta-plasia is changing a cell into an established cell type in order to protect it ultimately. Of an environmental stimulus. Another good example is the esophagus, when you get a lot of reflux. It's changing from a stratified squamous into a type of a columbar. Now this has become, this has now termed a pathology. And in many cases, this is termed pre-cancerous.
One of the four tissue types of the body, epithelia lines and protects our organs from the external and internal environment. In this episode, Dr Matt & Dr Mike explain how the different shape and layers of epithelia tell you what function it performs (form = functions) and highlight examples in the body where you can find each type. They also explore cancer, metaplasia, dysplasia, and Dr Matt's mums skin cancer diagnosis and surgery.
