Using Machine Learning in the Criminal Justice System

Tinder uses lots of really advanced machine learning algorithms to try to match people together based on their previous swipes. If Tinder just consistently does a bad job matching people together, there's a whole host of alternatives that people can and aren't choosing between. In the criminal justice system, the defendant doesn't get a choice of which court they would like to be tried in based on whether or not they think the algorithms are fair. They don't really get any say in that. There's way more opportunities for both incompetence and malevolence to strip in. But yeah, having that sort of competitive pressure to force you to really double check your assumptions is important.
