Jeff: By taking your items and skipping the garage sale and honestly, but legitimately giving them a more robust fair market value rather than a garage sale haggled down price, they might be four times as worth what they are at a garage sale as they could be at a good will donation site. Take the receipt, keep the receipt, turn it in for your tax prep and you could probably end up in the same area of savings whether or not rather than having to do the garage sale.
