Buckley secured Russell Kirk as an ongoing columnist and without it, we probably wouldn't be having the same conversation about either Buckley or national review. He was still very much in his, what he called his neo Calvinist mode. And he could bring some of the heavy lumber against the easy conscience of the American left.
