i think it's really hard for modern human beings to avoid utilitarian calculus. We've also absorbed this idea of of a calculus of society well being. And i don't think it's a very obviously people disagree, but i think that can be a very destructive impulse in philosophy. I actually think that's true of many philosophical ideas that have a kind of reductive bent.
