The Importance of the Second Soil

There was a place southwest of the Sea of Galilee, incredibly arid desert region. Vegetation is sparse except when farmers dig irrigation ditches and even then it's still a struggle. In Hebrew, awar, literally means naked tree. There's nothing to them. This is the curse of modern culture. We do not live in a soil that can sustain our souls. The more abundantly the benefits of civilization come streaming our way, the emptier our lives will become. With all its wealth and power, it only shows that the human heart in which God has put eternity is so huge that the world is too small to satisfy it.
