How do you know it's not an evil twin or an actor that the c i a has surgically altered to look like your spouse? Most of the time we can dismiss possibilities like that extremely unlikely, especially when we're interacting with someone face to face. But through the mail or over the phone or on the inter net, it is much easier to pull off an impersonation of someone. So if the appearance does hold up, that they are who they seem to be, then at some point you need to accept the identity as genuine. Test things you don't trust, but verify.
