Banting and Colop's Invention of Insulin
By 1922, they were close to a breakthrough and Banting decided that McCloud was the center of a gigantic conspiracy to steal the credit for their immediate breakthrough. In January of 1922, the group carried out a clinical test of their new extract that failed disastrously. The bad results sparked a fight and during a heated exchange, Colop threatened to leave the band and take his purification method with him. He threatened to patent it so that they'd have to pay him to use it. There are no contemporary records of this encounter,. No reference by Colop and only two accounts, neither of which, according to Bliss, should be considered entirely reliable.
