The Importance of Consonants

Unlike vowels, when you change consonants, it completely throws off the listener. With vowels, people are kind of used to hearing them being modified. However, if you substitute a consonant, like the R or the L or the P, it will immediately throw the listener off because they will be listening or looking for a different word. So in terms of the hierarchy of speech, I find that mispronunciation of consonants is more critical than working on vowels.
