The Disloyalty of the Tackay Family
Some nisai people were willing to answer yes to these questions. The men who did were drafted into the 100 and 442nd infantry regiments of the United States Army. When the Tackay family answered no to both questions, the consequences were swift and dramatic. And so we had to be moved again from Roar in Arkansas in the swamps to northern California right on the Oregon border to Tule Lake. Camp Tule Lake was designated a segregation center. This was a special type of camp for those considered disloyal. It was a maximum security facility surrounded by a double row of barbed wire 8 feet high.
