We spend a lot of our time measuring potential confounding variables and then we adjust for them statistically or sometimes by restriction another way of getting at that. I do think there is a bit of an inconsistency in some people in the way that they they take this angle that relative risk under to a not meaningful if you take that position you kind of also have to take the position that trans fats are not increasing risk of coronary heart disease.
