The Viking Hearth Room

Rural Vikings lived in multifunctional long houses, as they had done for more than 2,000 years at this point. Their houses often had animal buyers in one end of the house and dwelling spaces in the other. The hearth was a social gravity point, where crafting, storytelling, cooking and eating took place. Viking houses were spaces of love and belonging for some, of violence and trauma for others.
