Most of the research that had made claims about r advertising was most of it done by the advertising and marketing industries themselves. So there's plenty of independent academic research that's been done on advertising effectiveness over the years. Many of these earlier research projects were individual case studies that measured just a single product, but the effects for a single product may not generalize to other types of products or other product categories. If we see firms spending millions of dollars on ads, it must be profitable, so there must be something wrong in your analysis.
