The Role of Elders in Indigenous Communities
Author: Indigenous elders are persons identified by their communities as knowledge keepers. You cite research on certain First Nations peoples indicating that elders are considered close to the spirit world. Those closest to birth and death would be kind of close to each other in the sense of, I guess, their life's force or being in the world. It's common within a lot of different Indigenous sort of systems to think about life as a cycle.
