Was He Jewish?

With Spears, the rumor was it was Spears found out where a commandant was staying up in the Alps. He disappeared, I mean, but he got a keys of, didn't he shoot some German officer escaping or something? With Winters, there's also that bit where Winters takes his rounds away. And so, you know, him speaking German was such an interesting thing for me to develop as a character and playing an American Jewish fellow who speaks German.
