Why the Amazon Matters

The Amazon is the largest rainforest in the world spread across nine countries. It's home to 10% of the world's wildlife, thousands of rare plant species and about 350 different indigenous groups. If we lose the forest, we are going to release more than 300 billion tons of carbon dioxide - a key greenhouse gas for global warming. We have to get to zero deforestation forest degradation, start a big restoration project and also find a new economy.
