Nanny Bumpo is not allied with either of the colonial powers. He's just one of those Christopher Hitchens types who tells you more about being an atheist than anyone has ever told you about being. The event, like the central events that this book is happening around are based in reality. And then the part at the end where the British garrison surrenders and then is asked to leave and then is attacked as it's leaving like that was real.
