Limbic friction is my attempt to give a name to something that is more nuanced and mechanistic than stress. We're trying to calm down in order to reduce that level of arousal. It's called the stress response. There's another aspect of stress that's just as important, which is when we're tired and we're fatigued and we need to engage, we need to be more alert than we are. And indeed, that's one condition in which we have limbic friction....
