I think that Refinery29 has made a decision to serve black women in a way that I wasn't able to do at ESPN. 50% of unbothered users are new to Refinery29. So we're helping grow an audience. We're helping grow the Refinery29 loyal audience. To me, that means so much. And just giving the black women even prior to me joining the company, gave the black women the space to do that. That was awesome.
Refinery29 began Unbothered as an Instagram channel to celebrate black women. Under the tutelage of its new Managing Editor, Danielle Cadet, who hails from the Huffington Post & ESPN, the channel has fully grown to embody and surpass its mission statement of becoming a ‘community celebrating Black voices, Black art, and Black women.’ This week on UnStyled, listen in as Danielle talks about the importance of championing and amplifying black women — and exactly why they’re so unbothered.
