John Marsden and Leo DiMarco were two of the students who began the study as participants from the Harvard sample. John, it turned out, had some medical concerns and wasn't able to serve, but he served stateside in support of the military efforts in World War II. Leo was a very successful high school teacher, well-loved, very connected to the community that he taught in. And he lived a life embedded in connections to others, very close to his family.
