The Importance of the Visual Dimension in Early Music

The Cantonese Sacre was printed by William Bird and Thomas Talis in 1575. The piece is built around a technique called Canonic Imitation. It can't be really pulled off without the visual dimension, says Donald McLeod. Painted Love, Renaissance Marriage Portraits is open until 1st October at the Holburn Museum in Bath.
