In 19 78, a new afghan communist government took over the country. They considered themselves radical leftists and allined themselves with the soviet union. I think the majority of the afghan people were not in favor of this regime change. Some feared their violent tactics. Others considered them godless. This was a devoutly moslem country, after all.
