The History of a Substitute Teacher

In the intro to your book, you recount an experience that seems to have been formative. It was a visit of a substitute teacher who sort of pierced the bubble. And so I used that anecdote in the beginning of this book as part of this haunting disjuncture between how a place seems and what's really going on.
