The Origin of Syphilis in Ancient Human Remains
Human remains that do not show signs of the disease can be used to diagnose syphilis or other trip animal diseases. The first populations that were effectively diagnosed did not resolve the debate whether it came from the old or new world because they overlapped with Christopha columbus' return. Syphilis may have come may have evolved a bit later with the mixing out of the mixing of genes of different troponema species but we still don't know where those different Troponema species came from and when the collision of the cultures happened we do not know yet.
