I think the way I would put it is. The kind of piece you think he could get now will probably be better for him than ongoing war a year from now. If this is still going on, it's hard to imagine it looking like success. And so politically, I would think he'd be wise to do this now. It may be very important whether Russians get carkeaved. Americans don't give a shit.
