Teaching to the Test, You Teach to the Exam

I think the problem is it's prescribed. I was talking to teachers the other day saying how much they were losing teachers in schools. As far as I'm concerned, it's the child that counts in all this. That child has got to leave school at whatever age she or he leaves, whole and full of potential. You have to have inspired them to do that. One of our inspirations was Ted Hughes. There is a sense actually that we all need to learn more poetry,. but was he particular to you? Did you meet him and how did you teach? "He would amazingly bring me manuscripts. And so what do you think?"
