Peter Saffir was the head of anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1951 he developed a new technique for resuscitation – what today we call CPR. He faced heavy resistance from the medical community, which felt the general public couldn't be trusted with such specialized knowledge. Ultimately, Saffir's views would be vindicated,. and for his effort, he'd forever be known as the father of CPR.
