The Concept of Race in the Eighteenth Century

The concept of race is an eighteenth century concept. Race didn't really exist in 17 forty. The shift that you are alluding to between toward a race is really an interesting one, and we see it on the of terminology and nomenclature. For a long time, people referred to different humans as varieties. Linnaeus did that. Bufon does this. And when we move from variety to race, we're moving from the botanical to the animal. We're talking about blood lines, biological blood lines.
